Welcome to the beautiful Wizarding Wolds of Harry Potter where magic comes from reading and viewing the world around you in a new way to broaden the mind and insnare the senses. Reading and illustrations only have gone hand in hand since the early ages of children's literature. In the magical world of Harry Potter, illustrations can only enhance the love and wonder for the child, young adult and adult reading the books. In this project I have created spot illustrations from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The spot illustrations capture three key moments in the beloved book. After which I created a variant cover for the last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I created the inks first and designed the cover as a long illustration, meant to wrap around the spine. After which I added colors focusing on the themes of red and green. The red for the front of the book represents Gryffindor, good, and peril. The back of the book is green for Slytherin, sickness, and balance. As red and green are complementary colors, the clash creates a stark contrast on either end giving the reader a true since of the emotion that is carried throughout the book.
